Anthony Graves and the Long Struggle to Freedom (2010)
A featured blog post for the Innocence Project’s Innocence Blog on my undergraduate work on the case of Anthony Graves, a Texas man who was sent to death row by circumstantial evidence that a group of journalism students I was a member of helped disprove in the course of seven years.
Nightfly: Moshing in Montrose (2006)
A colloquially written feature article for the Houston Press column, the Nightfly, that captures the activities of the writer in the course of an evening in Houston’s nightlife–in this case, my time spent at Houston’s infamous Numbers Night Club and its inappropriately titled ’80s night.’
College
The study pill (2006)
Admittedly a cliche story that is cyclically done at undergraduate papers, I tried to make this story for the Cauldron student newspaper as much a rudimentary look at the University’s drug policy as a human story by juxtaposing personal experiences from a student who took Adderall under careful professional supervision with those from a student who admitted to abusing his prescription.
Putting the “university” in “Catholic university” (2005)
A column critiquing my undergraduate university’s nondiscrimination policy, which failed to acknowledge sexual orientation, and the administration’s inability to allow proper representation of a seemingly growing community at the Catholic university.
9/11 commissioner speaks, analyzes attacks in report (2004)
A straight news article on the visit of John F. Lehman in the capacity of a 9/11 commission member.
